After Gérard Blain, let's see another French actor becoming director, Maurice Ronet of Ascenseur pour l'échafaud, Le feu follet and Plein soleil fame. He didn't really choose the easy path, by adapting Herman Melville's Bartleby the Scrivener. The movie was first made for TV then found its way in theatres. There are usual seconds rôles of great ability, Maurice Biraud, Dominique Zardi, Hubert Deschamps, while Maxence Mailfort is Bartleby, the guy who "would prefer not to". But the movie succeeds through the very good adaptation, the score signed Gérard Anfosso, and one great among the greatests, Michel Lonsdale Bartleby's helpless boss. On trouve aussi dans le film un café-racer : … dont je laisse l'identification à messieurs jplemoine, Brotherjack, JCB… Honda or not Honda? … Et un feu parisien en 1976 pour rjluna2 : « Ah Bartleby! Ah humanity! » Joyeux Noël à vous tous ! |
