Nothing on imdb; may have been a VHS release as well. Very little other information found. This DVD version is 12 minutes long, has no intro title nor end credits and left me with the impression that it has been shortened from something bigger, perhaps 20 minutes long which seems a typical length for this sort of professionally produced feature. There's very little coverage, for instance of non-works cars and several works cars which retired are completely absent. As with Ford's 72 Safari film, ITV sports presenter Dickie Davies does the commentary, although in this version he's never seen onscreen, just heard as a voice-over. Possibly the wettest ever Safari - lots of flooding, waterholes, streams becoming rivers or lakes so mostly grey and sodden footage - and regarded as one of the toughest and most memorable years as a result; only 12 finishers. Short mash-up version (6 minutes, poor quality but still worth watching for some of the action) on youtube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rF9DjFF6-jc - no commentary (some good backing music instead), and rearranges the sequencing a fair bit. But it has bits of additional footage not shown in my DVD version, reinforcing the idea that the whole film was originally a longer feature. -- Last edit: 2015-02-26 15:27:47 |
