Well, they hit the nail on the head :king: Beate Uhse, Cicciolina, cheap, free available drugs and Mercedes Benzes, that's we have around us every day :D

 As I've never seen episode 1 & 2, I don't know the original plot for the continuing episodes.

I believe this review on the IMDb is accurate-
"Enjoyable, light-hearted mini-series in which George Cole basically reprises his famous "Arthur Daley" role under another character name, appointing himself as a "roving ambassador without portfolio for the British PM" and touring Europe with his "lady wife" to study European culture in the run-up to the launch of the European single market in 1992."
What I have seen is quite funny, some of George Coles (Roots') remarks are typical (stereotypical!) of a middle class englishman of the time. (While in Italy he visited a real communist mayor, which root expected to find him living his life in a barn feeding goats while running the town :) ..too his surprise he was in a proper town hall, with a well turned out suit & crocodile shoes!) Also while in Italy, Root expected all aspects of Italian life to have a Mafia undercurrent & for normal people to be carrying out their own justice (Basically a lawless land) commiting executions for minor offences to each other! (As said in the review, it's told in a light hearted way ,otherwise in the wrong hands this could have been very offensive. Root is not being judgemental, it's just the way he is and the way he thinks (Thankfully the majority of us Don't think like that.!)
