 They have a correct 4:3 ratio now and would be more narrow afterwards... but I could do so tomorrow.

The current count is 1206.
The series is running since 1970 and each year sees (currently) about 35 new episodes.

 That's just why they created Tatort - to highlight the different facettes of Germany. Every episode takes place in a different city in Germany (occasionally also in Austria or Switzerland) with a different team of inspectors. Sometimes you might be in the docks of Hamburg interrogating laid-back pipe-smoking fishermen ("Wenn ich's ihnen doch nu sooche, das war koin Moääd, das war Notweää!") the cosmopolitan streets of Berlin ("Hör auf Keule, ick hab dir jesacht, se war keene als wie du!") or the German stereotype influencing romantic streets of Munich ("Scherts euch, i will koan Ärger ned hoam!")
