This TV film was based on the murders of James "JB" Wiseman and his wife; Kathleen who were both shot with a shotgun by Douglas Thomas as they slept in their bedroom of their home in Hartfield in Middlesex County, Virginia on the night of the 10th November 1990. He killed the Wisemans after their daughter; Jessica asked him to kill them so she could be with him as she was Thomas' girlfriend. Thomas was tried and convicted as a adult on the 26th August 1991 and was sentenced to death, he was executed on the 10th January 2000, while his girlfriend; Jessica was tried and convicted as a juvenile and was sentenced to serve time in a juvenile fallacy until the age of 21 and as a result was released in 1997. In 2005, the US Supreme Court had ruled that Thomas' death sentence and execution while he was under the age of 18 was a violation of the 8th amendment on prohibiting cruel and unusual punishment as and led to the law of giving juvenile the death penalty to be removed from the law books in 20 states, including Virginia. -- Last edit: 2015-12-04 11:44:40 |
