Strange: on IMDb, the given title is in Estonian, Vallatud kurvid. And, few lines further, we can read "remade as Ohtlikud kurvi (1961)". (Of the two directors, Kaljo Kiisk and Yuli Kun—which both are credited also for the 'remake' of 1961—one has a patronym very close to the one of a close-future professional rider who was among the very few to race outside Soviet Union at the end of the 60s, an Estonian pilot named Endel Kiisa.) The remake is said to be 'A wide screen remake in Soviet Kinopanorama of "Vallatud Kurvid" (1959) with the same cast and crew.' The aspect ratio of the latter being 2.77:1, compared to the… well, 2.76:1 of the 1959 movie—there must be some kind of mess in IMDb too. Both are said to be in color. The images here (which don't look deformed), posted by moskvichok, are in 640x290, 2.21:1. For the moment, I think we can guess it is indeed the first version, of 1959, and give it back its original (Estonian) title. |

The Estonian Film Archive says Vallatud kurvid (1959) is in black and white. Link to "www.filmi.arhiiv.ee" I can't find an entry for the "remake". |

The colour Kinopanorama remake does exists. Just search for "Ohtlikud kurvid" and you'll find it on a well-known video sharing site. The original is out there as well, in Estonian and in Russian. -- Last edit: 2016-02-06 15:34:03 |
