“You know, we're not just a load of static exhibits.” My favorite museum exhibit is the collection of Tito's cars held by the Technical Museum of Slovenia, so this series I stumbled upon recently seemed right up my alley. As the quote above suggests, this series is not a video catalog of the collection held by the Brooklands Museum of Aviation & Motoring, but a look at how scores of volunteers and other aficionados keep the collection alive and mobile. It also makes the museum look like a darn good place to visit. If the first episode is anything to go by, each episode highlights some work done on a handful of vehicles (ie. like making it go again after decades) while showing glimpses of others, some of which are featured in later episodes. As I go along, I will limit myself to these featured vehicles first and an occasional oddity not likely to be seen again. If anything of interest remains, I'll add those when I reach the end of the series. |

bonus vintage ambulance from archive footage in episode 1.01: two somewhat less vintage bonuses in episode 1.01: Episode 1.01 also features scenes from a vintage sports car race at Mallory Park with two cars associated with them (Frazer Nash, Alta) participating. I listed the ones where the plate could be made out, but here are two more : -- Last edit: 2024-08-07 00:20:11 |

episode 2.03 features loads of cars taking part in the members classic cars show. I could add over 20 of them (plates visible etc.), but... Here's one sample, though, because I don't think Dyanes get enough love: I only listed those cars interacted with by the judges. While it's actually the judge who identifies this as Plymouth Belvedere, I put it here because it's not fully visible: Also featured is a promo clip showing a range of 1968 Chevrolets: The episode also visits the Shuttleworth Collection where some additional machinery is seen: -- Last edit: 2024-08-19 16:14:24 |

I'm intrigued - looks familiar, but I can't match it - have tried Mclaren M6/M12 GT, Ferrari 312 P, Mirage, Ford P68/P69, one of the early Porsche 908 family, Lola T70 ... My hunch is something 69-70 3-litre Group 6 racer (or a modern recreation of similar) rather than parallel Group 5 5-litre which were a size bigger. |

Agree - looks like one of the pair of B16s with 1.8 Cosworth FVC entered in 1970 Daytona 24 Hours #37 and #62. Chassis numbers DBE-04 and -06, but unclear which was which - various ads give contradictory claims. And no pics found of either car in what looks like not-quite-complete resto state. |

Whew! Having reached the last of the episodes and featured vehicles yesterday, I spent today sorting and adding the "leftovers". It turned out to be quite a few of them and I hope didn't add too many vehicles. Then again, they don't really look like "ordinary parked vehicles". I also put the end year of the series as 2022 as there have been no new episodes since. This completes the series. I admit it wasn't quite what I was hoping it would be. Not that I know what I was hoping it would be, but I certainly didn't like the hodgepodge editing with repeated shots of various vehicles never to be featured and the narrator's silly attempts to create suspense and cliffhangers where there weren't any. The second series also strayed too many times away from the museum and its collection for my tastes. Still, a worthy tribute the museum and its many volunteers from all walks of life, something unfathomable here where you need a college degree to use any museum's lavatory... Some of the volunteers offered very funny commentary as they worked (“I'll bet it looks like we know what we're doing!”). Two things depressed me, though: that parts of this historic racetrack were built over (I'd expect this sort of attitude to heritage here, but not in Britain), and for all the talk about the British engineering excellence, the museum has no trucks. Can't have everything, I guess. Here are some of the classic cars from the car show featured in episode 2.03: With some more, including a Mini pick-up of sorts, shown in episode 2.07: |
