Excellent film of a book set in 1980-ish Birmingham - a 9 year old boy is separated from his baby brother and placed in foster care after their mother has a breakdown - tackles lots of issues such as social work system, mental health, racism, fractured family with some very hard hitting punches, but manages the paradoxical trick of landing them softly by creating the child's vision of events, so it glides gently through the turmoil. Which makes it easier to watch and appreciate, but somehow more gripping and poignant - a very clever technique. Very well acted - the boy is superb, and the rest of the cast all play their parts very well. Thoroughly recommended. Toys - the buses are 2015+ Atlas partwork and (I think) 2010+ Lledo. Dan's Action Vehicles must have thought all their Xmases came at once with this film - it's a bonanza from their fleet. |

I couldn't agree more dsl young Cole Martin's performance was just mesmerising and with Sir Lenny Henry and Chris Eccleston in support.. It was just brilliant rarely do child actors pull in such a performance But Cole's was just dripped empathy... I hope we will see more of him in the future.. |
