![]() ![]() Campaigning short about the doctor service in the Outer Hebrides a few years before NHS established. Filmed on the islands of Lewis, Harris and North Uist, and at Ullapool, Inverness, and Dingwall - so a well-funded production despite WW2 context (although surprisingly there is no direct mention of or reference to the war, only indirect visual indications). Directed by Kay Mander who seems an interesting character - born in Hull, became a prolific director of wartime social documentaries, then later worked on From Russia with Love (1963), The Heroes of Telemark (1965), Fahrenheit 451 (1966) and Tommy (1975). http://ssa.nls.uk/film/0033 , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evb55cmg7B4 Backgrounds ![]() ![]() Best 1940s jacket on film award winner ![]() Macbrayne ferry MV Lochnevis in wartime paint on Portree-Tarbert route ![]() http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/MacBrayne3.html#anchor212325 Plane for impdb - hospital flight to Glasgow ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
