![]() Tribute story built around the legendary Stone Roses concert (Manchester's Woodstock??) at Spike Island in May 1990, ![]() with a very paint-by-numbers story about a bunch of Manchester kids who are determined to see the gig and have lots of jolly japes in the process. All the usual cliches about down-trodden working class community values shining through whatever life throws at them, broken homes, poverty etc. But it ambles along reasonably well, has some good acting and a few good jokes. And although a clunky tribute, it does capture some of the excitement of 1989 when the Stone Roses seemed poised to conquer the world after their stunning proper debut album emerged from nowhere. However they crashed back down again just as quickly - a 2nd album didn't appear until 1994 and was pretty mediocre. Several period cars assembled for filming then keep reappearing as background furniture in lots of different places - becomes a bit of a game to keep spotting them, and more interesting than the plot during its frequent slow phases. |
