![]() ![]() Full-length remake by Scott Graham of his 20 minute short with the same name released in 2007. One of those sparse and bleakly ominous films about misfits with buried emotions, and set on a remote petrol station in the Highlands. Fairly predictable that it all will end in tears, but it carries its claustrophobic atmosphere well and the expansive scenery creates much of the mood. Filmed near the village of Badcaul and Little Loch Broom sea loch; the petrol station was a fake build overlooking the loch. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The mock-up is quite well done, but starts looking odd as the film runs through. First is petrol stations are usually close to some sort of settlement, even in Highlands. Second is that this is solid geology hillside - not the sort of stuff you excavate into for underground petrol tanks into - go somewhere else nearby with peat or boulder clay. Also no forecourt drains visible. Finally, part of the plot involves the gas heating breaking down, but nearest mains gas is 100+ miles away. Bottled gas for cooking is common, but house heating is electric (or stove etc) in these parts. I guess this was an existing roadside shed or maybe dead cafe in a viewpoint layby. Has 3 derelict cars scattered around - a Focus estate, Clio and a 3rd never really shown. No clear shots of any of them, but they keep cropping up in blurry backgrounds ![]() ![]() ![]() |
