![]() Frank Borzage's Bad Girl is "based on the novel by Viña Delmar." Photography by Chester Lyons, and I give a sample of his work here, with a lonely car—bound to stay unknown—in the rain: ![]() 00:19:51 ![]() Mellow story of a young couple uniting, falling for each other, marrying and having its first steps in life, mingled with vignettes at work, at home, with friends, especially the young lady's girl friend (very good Minna Gombell). We even have a boxing fight scene (on a boxing ring)—which is certainly not the worst of the movie. ![]() Sally Eilers and James Dunn (I hear of them for the first time) are fine (this Eilers is very charming and touching), but though with very good, witty, funny, touching moments in the beginning and in the middle (the opening scene as models! The chat of two soon-to-be lovers, downstairs in a New York tenement! The brother's condemnation, in both senses, condemning and then condemned!), the story reaches levels of tear-jerking and rather obscene quest for gentleness in the end, to a point that makes the movie disturbing, and not in a desirable way. About the title, I think it's an advertising department decision. The title which would have matched the story at the closest should have been "Pleasant but goofy couple in love". Probably not titilating enough to reach the marquee of any town theatre. Vraiment, je me demande… Another note: not only the title but the movie poster, as I stumble on it on en.wikipedia, is a, well… See it and see the movie, you'll understand. ![]() -- Last edit: 2016-01-31 01:11:14 |

Note: most of the IMDb reviewers sell the movie quite well! |
