This Gently film was set in April 1968 and dealt with the local police and the public's attitude to issue of immigration and racial discrimination in Great Britain. The episode featured archive footage and recording of the famous "Rivers of Blood" speech given by Conservative Member of Parliament, John "Enoch" Powell during a meeting at the Conservative Political Centre in Birmingham on the 20th April 1968 and mentions the assassination of US Civil Rights Leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr who shot by Missouri prison escapee, James Earl Ray with a sniper rifle in Memphis, Tennessee on the evening of the 4th April 1968. The episode also starred Eamonn Walker who is remembered for his role as Chief Wallace Boden from Chicago Fire. |
