![]() ![]() Documentary on the history of the infamous Driver Education Films produced between 1959-1979. The film includes clips from over fifteen original films, including three others of which I made separate entries for (since the whole movies were available on the DVD I borrowed). The fifteen films include: Mechanized Death (1961) Wheels of Tragedy (1963) Special Delivery (1964) The Shoplifter (1964) The Child Molester (1964) Carrier or Killer (1964) A Great and Honorable Duty (1965) The Paperhangers (1966) Go, Sober and Safe (1966) The Third Killer (1966) A Matter of Judgement (1968) There's a Message In Every Bottle (1968) Options To Live: Alternate Version (1971) Drive and Survive (1977) Death on the Highway (or Ride To Live, Live to Ride) (1965) The three other films are: Signal 30 (1959) - /movie_260369-Signal-30.html Highways of Agony (1969) - /movie_332115-Highways-of-Agony.html Options to live (1979) - /movie_268515-Options-to-Live.html -- Last edit: 2024-07-03 00:00:28 |

Some of these are pretty infamous, like "The Child Molester", where they showed graphic details of real cases, and used it to traumatize school children, although the film was never intended for children but to educate parents. "notoriously lurid content" as it says on imdb... On youtube there's even the sister of one of the murder victims in the comments section https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwQBPkMEmoc |

Drivotrainers! First made in the early '50s, apparently using Ford steering wheels and dash components, but '60s and '70s units used Chrysler components, including "Tuff" steering wheels, column/dash/shifters from the Dart, and a bucket seat from an A100 van. |

I wasn't shown these in class but in the early-2010s, I remember watching these on YouTube and seeing one called Anatomy of an Accident. It told you to "always swerve right" and had a ghost dad looking after his surviving family members, but his son ends up dying from injuries as well. And another one, where... if I recall correctly, a teenage drove drunk and caused a car accident that killed a little girl and crippled the mother. I loosely remember the quote "You said 'it couldn't happen to me', but it did..." I forget what the title was, but another Driver Education film I saw reused the exact same audio but with different footage. |
