modell ◊ 2010-06-07 19:28	This documentary tells the story of Dr. Horatio Nelson Jackson, who, in the spring of 1903, took a $50 ($1178.62 in 2009 dollars) wager to see if he could cross the entire United States by automobile within 90 days. It would be the first transcontinental trip of its kind. With him on his journey was young mechanic and driver Sewall K. Crocker and a bulldog named Bud. The car chosen for the trip was a slightly used 1903 Winton Touring Car (nicknamed "Vermont" after his home state), which was the most powerful car at the time, with 20 hp and a top speed of 30 mph. It cost him $3,000, which is about $70,000 in 2009 dollars! Despite many break downs and mechanical problems along the way, they successfully arrived in New York City in 63 days.
