Et notre héros enters a world of pain…

In fact, great movie, really. Great acting and great direction, great writing, great cinematography by Russell Metty, and fine musical score by Miklós Rózsa, not too bombastic this time.

It's not a whodunit, the culprit being rather evident quite soon, but a psychological study (not a lecture). To concur to the portrayal of the characters, many scenes are almost
morceaux de bravoure (the storm, for instance), while others are passages obligés (the trial) done in flying colours.

One great pleasure is to see some very fine parts, besides Boyer and Tandy, with very fine British actors, Cedric Hardwicke and the terrible/terrific Mildred Natwick as the malevolent nurse.

Now about cars: four in the film, and very short sequences for them. It's not gonna be easy.

I since read Huxley's short story. It was far more cruel than the screenplay he made out of it for Hollywood. Probably the original work was deemed unacceptable by the big brass there.

This is an American film, so don't assume that the cars are British or the plates are real. :)
