![]() Children's Film Foundation adventure, and a fairly ambitious story set in North Wales. Two lads run away from home in a slate-mine village and spend the night in the quarry. When they return the following morning the place is deserted because the nearby nuclear reactor has gone dappy, so area has been evacuated. Add in a burglar in a warehouse taking literally the term cash-and-carry and it all kicks off. Despite some clunky bits, it works - some great use of locations particularly Welsh mountains and the mine - and is much more than the usual CFF fodder. Rejects - Saab 99 4-door rubber bumper ![]() ![]() - overloaded 120Y estate; garage with early XJ6 and Mini Van ![]() ![]() - assorted porridge ![]() ![]() Other stuff: - nuclear reactor (without any powerlines in or out, so not surprising it overheated) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() - quarry engine ![]() ![]() - chopper for impdb ![]() ![]() - torch for rjluna ![]() I think it's a Pifco, just like my dad's favourite torch when I was a nipper except white instead of red top light ![]() .... must have lasted 30+ years till eventually case rusted out. -- Last edit: 2020-06-24 03:08:48 |

dsl, in your second "porridge" picture, I spotted a gray Austin 1100/1300, closest front-facing car to the camera. |

^ yes - Austin 1100 Mk1. Plus Minis, Marinas, Princess [ADO71], Escort van, Maxi towing caravan, and at one point the probable crew-car MGB GT (not seen in those 2 pics, but was in the sequence). Renault 12 with vinyl roof the only slightly unusual thing. |

More porridge pics![]() ![]() The Renault 12 with vinyl roof, MGB GT crew car coming down the hill, red Viva HC with vinyl roof, Escort van has (I think) Forestry Commission Wales livery Stuff from "evacuation centre" car park ![]() ![]() ![]() Red Datsun Cherry, maroon Oxford, yellow Capri Mk1 facelift, big Humber on right, green Corolla estate etc. Two slightly odd things about this scene - everyone's abandoned their cars without shutting doors or boots - the panic's not quite that urgent. Also that it's filmed at the Winston Churchill Hall in Hillingdon, N London, not a Welsh location. Which is mildly ironic as Winston was historically a controversial figure in Wales for sending in troops against a miners strike. |
