1953 disaster-drama about the 1912 sinking of the RMS Titanic on her maiden voyage where 1'503 people sadly perished Basically a family drama set on the Titanic which the sinking interrupts. While not the first film to dramatize the Titanic disaster, it was the first major Hollywood film to do so and as such, numerous survivors served as consultants on the film their opinions ranged from praising the film for it's accuracy to merely considering to be good entertainment. Survivor Eugene Daly enjoyed the film so much he went and saw it a second time, though he did criticize the clear lack of likeness between the real Captain Edward Smith and his actor, Brian Aherne. The film does contain several errors such as having a horn blaring during the entire sinking and some of the clothing and hairstyles more reflecting 1953 than 1912. That said, this is the only film to depict the Titanic's slight list to her port side, which all future depictions omitted. The collision and sinking |
