Can the remake ever capture the genius of the original?? Seems to be getting good early reviews, and the director is apparently the son of the original's director. Captures taken from the official trailer, including a plane for impdb Also some shots from a behind the scenes snippet .... and this MINI with JMT 994 plates I'm not putting down a claim on this film when it becomes available - so if anyone else wants to get in first, go for it. (And they're welcome to re-arrange anything I'm posting as required). |

Rejects - several older things "casually" parked in blink-and-miss-it backgrounds (see also the Viva and VW Camper) - Zephyr Mk2 - neat dark brown customised Mini (can't identify much but has Aus doors with quarterlights and looks 1976+ rear details; some Aus versions were sold in NZ and even a period when NZ assembled Aus Minis) and a blue scooter - local build Triumph 2.5Pi and Ford D-Series First 2 minutes before credits are a chase through a big scrappie - all filmed with jerky/blurred camera work so can't really pick anything useful - general impression it's mostly Japanese porridge, although a silver Fiesta glimpsed and there's a large SUV with all-over white livery and side logos as if some special edition. And some aerial shots Verdict - a very good remake, and a good film in its own right. Gentler more mainstream plot than the original without some of the subversive themes, excellent chases, some very funny bits in the script, and superb photography and scenery - makes NZ look a fascinating place to visit. An excellent tribute. Credits acknowledge "Mini New Zealand (BMW NZ Ltd)" and "Mini Owners of Southland" - Link to "www.stuff.co.nz" . |
