Not many cars here, but unusual to see two Edsels in a film from 1960 - plus there are some good shots of the firetrucks. And, of course, for IMPDb: RT-33A s/n 51-9098, civil reg. N1387N, then N7490C, later N233Y. This was the first civilian T-33, pieced together in 1957 from a wreck and parts from a Nevada scrapyard (apparently the Navy refused to loan the movie company a TV-2 trainer, so this one filled the role). Currently at the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum in Florida awaiting restoration. Early F-86 Sabres, probably from the California Air National Guard. National Airlines DC-6 wearing fictitious "Trans States" markings and registration "N16020" (which was the number of Amelia Earhart's missing Lockheed Electra!). Actual registration unknown at this time. Miniatures were used for the midair collision and subsequent crash landing: Efrem Zimbalist Jr. and Dana Andrews, the two pilots, would meet again the same way in Airport 1975 with reversed results... |
