 That's true, for the movie they didn't need non-US cars, since it's supposed to be set in California, but just for the clarification, there is no age restriction for imported cars in Puerto Rico (like it is in the USA). Therefore, NOT EVERY US federal law is applied there:

 I can't believe that people are nitpicking about whether or not the cars need to be US-spec when they're missing the fact that the movie is supposed to take place between '79 and '82.....and many of the cars listed here are newer. The wife of the main character drives a 1990 Olds wagon! The neighbor has an '86 Mercedes SL! I guess Back To the Future isn't the only movie with a Delorean and time travel! :)
