The remarkably British looking 2-6-4 tank engine apparently destroyed in the pictures above is a London, Midland and Scottish railway Fowler designed parallel boiler machine, 5ft 9in driving wheels, 2 cylinders and 200lb per square inch boiler pressure. They commenced service in the late 1920s, and none is preserved. They were numbered 42300 to 42424 in the British Railways 1948 system. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LMS_Fowler_2-6-4T -- Last edit: 2021-08-30 21:43:28 |

it is the film that inspired the great escape with Mc Queen the following year, less known but may be better... the scene of the derailment is impressive and remind that of "the battle of the rail". The golden age of English cinema -- Last edit: 2024-09-28 21:53:56 |
