"Product placement" to prepare return of Borgward brand in our times? ![]() |
◊ 2018-03-22 19:15 |
I think that there's already a Borgward branded SUV sold in China, right? |
◊ 2018-03-22 19:17 |
They are two for now, BX5 and BX7. A sporty BX6 is almost ready. They should return to Europe in 2019 with the opening of a new production plant in Bremen https://www.borgward.com/models/ -- Last edit: 2018-03-22 19:17:51 |

This is what I was thinking about - they want (wanted?) to back with it also to Germany. I think it is not yet available anywhere, but by what I remember, China indeed was meant to be the first market. EDIT. Wrote this before seeing Alex_DJ's comment. Didn't notice that they are already in serial production in China ![]() -- Last edit: 2018-03-22 19:23:38 |

Sad for me. I am not sure it will be a good move. Only quite aged people remember Borgwards. I am 57 and I remember to have seen just ten cars excluding my first decade of life because I cannot remember them. Of the ten seen that I remember between 1983 and now only thre in Italy (one in a Junk yard in 1983 and the other two quite recently at old cars auctions). I saw one in Vienna in 1985, one in South Holland in 1985, One in Norway in 1987, three in Syria in 1991 and one in Colorado (in a junk yard) in 2006. |

I've seen them only on internet or magazines, but I like those cars, together with Hansas and Lloyds... it would be great to have one as a hobby car, but they are definitely rare to find... @Weasel1984: yes they seem also to be reasonably successful Link to "bestsellingcarsblog.com" I've read that in the first two months of 2018 sales went down, but I suppose it's due to a too limited range, which will expand in the next months |

Return of old brands and creation of new ones is trend, which I like, espcially if new people/companies are hidden behind such projects and not the usual well known big players. It makes terribly boring, globlaized automotive landscape a little more interesting. Of course it would be better, if it always went hand in hand with opening of new car plants in Europe. |

Yes I like this too. Seems that Chinese companies are the ones who most follow this trend, as like SAIC with MG... Borgward owner Foton is a subsidiary of BAIC Group which owns a lot of sub-brands, they could really use some of them to create the basis for a revival also of the other Borgward-brands like Goliath or Lloyd |

Lots of old Polish bike makes are coming back - as rebadged Chinese machines ![]() http://www.romet.pl/de/Motorrad_Katalog,13.html http://www.junak.com.pl -- Last edit: 2018-03-22 19:53:30 |

Chineses are beginning to make very good cars, if they adapt some good vehicles to a brand's tradition they could do well. Borgward and MG could become good sellers, if they believe in their projects |

My God !!! |
◊ 2018-03-22 20:58 |
I don't like to recreate old brands. I remember how the case with Bugatti, Talbot and Maybach was. Just Audi was a succes but it took ten years or so to achieve a definite place in the market and about thirty years to be considered as a sort of BMW or Mercedes. |

Recreation and creation of new brands is not always associated with sell of ready-made Chinese products under different name, anyway Chinese production can be in some circumstances helpful eg. when truck manufacturer can imports more easily Chinese cabines. Just to make it clear - I do not mean situation when sucessful company cuts costs and moves production of cabines from Europe to China, but such one where new, small, independent truck manufacturer can introduce own vehicle more easily, with less financial risk thanks to import of parts which today are for small company too expensive to design and produce. @Gamer In case of Chinese vehicles in which only name has been changed - some Romet's products (not all) are from China, but it is still Polish company and the initiative is on its side. We live in times when doing of business and production look this way - I hope local markets and industries will back sooner than later, but today it is like it is and it's better to have company/brand that is still active, which knows how to deal with these realities, than have nothing. EDIT: Above I originally used word "rebranding" which maybe wasn't the most fortunate in this case. I meant by that literally the situation when one brand is replaced by another, not this what marketing specialists usually understand under this term. -- Last edit: 2018-03-22 22:32:19 |

This is the first time I don't agree your statement. Probably I am too much psycologically liked to the older brands. I would detest a Chinese use of the Isotta Fraschini or the Cisitalia name. |

Well, they've already spoiled Lambretta and Gilera, completely illegally: https://lambrettista.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/2-jpeg-scaled500.jpg?w=358&h=268 http://autoport.com.ar/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/PD9.jpg |

The worst car ever(?) is also an illegal Chinese copy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPCAbsVvf0k |

Yes but I mean apart from unauthorized clones they now build good cars. The Shuanghuan CEO belongs to the past of China cars industry, now they do much better things, like for example this one Link to "carnewschina.com" and many others |

The Chinese have done untold damage to the motorcycle industry, youngsters who bought cheap scooters and 125's have been put off bikes for life, now believing that all bikes are rancid tat that doesn't last until its 1st MOT. Even the stuff built with supervision from western quality engineers is mostly junk, the whole manufacturing ethos in China is opposed to any form of quality. |
◊ 2018-03-22 22:42 |
they are the enemy of western citizens cos they are left without a job due to china policies of relocating workplaces AND buying their inferior crap all the time which results of consistent drop of quality in goods so if anyone supports chinese products is essentially doing economic suicide long term and what Donald Trump is doing is real awesome, finally someone who has real balls to stand up to those economic rapists -- Last edit: 2018-03-22 22:45:50 |

They protect own market and industry. Others can do the same (well at least China can't forbid them that). If they don't, it is not fault of Chinese. |

Isnt it just how capitalism works? They just repeating what Japan did in 70's. |
◊ 2018-03-22 23:01 |
I don't remember european and american companies moving work places on masse in Japan , do you ? also China is bringing BLACK MIRROR to reality , it becomes so Orvelian Link to "nationalpost.com" -- Last edit: 2018-03-22 23:02:03 |

Well, what I said about Chinese cars was only a technical opinion on products (moreover, my impressions are based only on what I see on the web or on magazines, no direct experience with Chinese cars so far... so maybe I dared too much)... I didn't intend this in a political or economical view |
◊ 2018-03-22 23:37 |
Precisely the opposite, the Japanese took western products and worked out how to make them better with all new machine tooling and production techniques, and an educated & motivated workforce. In China they've (up 'til now) taken obsolete western and Japanese products and worked out how to make them as cheaply as possible, then a competitor copies your copy but cheaper, and so-on, they're on a race to the bottom. |

You want him? We would be more than happy to ship him and his family back to the motherland. I loathe political discussions here, it's the one place to escape that stress. |

to be fair, chinese vehicles are literally just one design multiplied dozens of times among several companies (even legal designs, at that) also night cub is invoking some of that famous twitter irony (bad night cub >_>) -- Last edit: 2018-03-23 06:38:48 |

I totally agree |

Well, such is mainly possible, but it is elaborate, costs money and for some stuff you only can choose used stuff from eBay of flea markets. For some stuff, as modern electronics, ist nearly impossible. But everyone of us can do a bit anyways. To be an alert consumer is a good step for that. |
