The black-and-white cinematography, creepy gothic house and Lon Chaney Jr. in arguably his last good movie give the film an old-fashioned charm while it also contains shocking moments more typical of a lighter grindhouse movie. My favorite character is Ralph, a relatively early role for future exploitation great Sid Haig. Notably, he portrays a teenager who has mentally regressed to a toddler and, having known a person in real-life with a similar ailment, it's very progressive and respectful portrayal, for the most part.
