Have this on DVD, but still can't find time to watch it. Are there any references to synth/New Romantic music in the 80s scenes? After all this is the 1st thing which made Beksiński junior well known. |

Yes, they are present however not very much, and usually the most popular romantic music samples (Ultravox 'Dancing with Tears in my Eyes', older The Moody Blues 'Nights In White Satin'). And beware... It's breathtakingly deep & heavy movie. The family vivisection in the documentary form. You may feel the sadness aftermath. I wasn't surprised because I read 'Beksińscy: portret podwójny' before. -- Last edit: 2018-07-25 17:00:04 |

So indeed, a little stereotypic and from the end of the era, pity as in his radio programs he had to promote more rare or now completly forgotten heavy weight "electro-romanticism" (Ultravox of course too, but from its much more interesting time in the very early 1980s). Thanks, I suspect it won't be easy movie, maybe that's the reaosn why I'm avoiding it a bit subconsciously |

@dsl Ah you went even further to Ulltravox! still with John Foxx Tomasz Beksiński, translator and music journalist about whose life this movie also is and who in 1980s made the biggest contribution to popularize New Romantic music in Poland, after years choose John Foxx's "The Garden" (the linked "Europe After The Rain" etc.) as his favourite album of this genre. Personally I prefer some songs from Foxx earlier solo LP - "Metamatic" - not stereotypically pretty, but what's more important they IMO catch spirit of the era well. However melodically my favorite band of this time is in fact Ultravox from the years 1980-82, so already with Midge Ure on board. Tunes like "Astradyne", "Death in The Afternoon", "Passing Strangers", "The Voice" or "Cut and Run" (to menton just a few) always impressed me with their momentum or long and memorable bridges I admit I was not familiar with the 1st one earlier, as curiosity have just found that their 1st album was played in public radio 30.06.1983: http://gembon.rockmetal.art.pl/pzg/pzg1.htm , but not by Beksiński. -- Last edit: 2018-07-27 16:54:49 |
