Gordon Douglas' very edifying story (based on a E.V. Cunningham's novel) of a woman —Carroll Baker of Baby Doll fame— recovering from being raped by her step-father when a teen,

… then abused by a slimy preacher, then prostituted (and slained by an over-rich customer) then in danger to marry a millionaire…

But all is well that ends well: throuugh hard study and roses breeding, and with the help of the soon-to-fall-in-love private dick George Maharis, l'amour triomphera à la fin:

Very 'PC', as you can guess, but soft-spoken and well told a story, if rather tediously paced.

Good numbers from various cast members, Viveca Lindfors, Edmond O'Brien, Ann Sothern (fantastic!), Joanne Dru, Paul Gibert (as a transvestite pimp!) and Nancy Kovack for a very funny minute.

Maharis (the private eye), Peter Lawford (the millionnaire) and Aldo Ray (the rapist) are not that great here.

About the copy and the pics: it's a p&s, again! From original 1.66:1 to 1.33:1, so it down-grades some possibly interesting captures, and forbids some others. Maudits diffuseurs télé !
