I'm not sure how to propose "star" ratings, but as I big fan of the movie, I can tell you what each of these vehicles should receive -- The Gräf & Stift bus should get 3 stars, as it's the heroes' getaway vehicle in the climactic chase. The Opel Blitz truck and VW Kübelwagen should get 2 stars, as they turn up in numerous scenes, and chases, but aren't operated by the main characters. The "unknown" staff car should also get two stars, as it is the location of a brief fight scene, but not operated extensively or by any major characters. |

the 2-3 stars do not especially depend of main character or not. If a car is well used by a character or in a chase it can get 3 stars |

The "fighters" rammed by the bus on the Luftwaffe airfield towards the end of the film are NA Harvards. The Ju-52 used was an actual Junkers built example that had been borrowed from the Swiss Air Force for filming : http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0718298/L/ A picture of it from later still wearing the same camoflage. |

(2012 UPDATE)....The fighter planes are actually North american T-6, made by Noorduyn in Canada, the ones you see on screen are from a batch of 40 scrapped by the Swiss Air Force in 1969...originally they were delivered to the RAF in Canada in 1942 and then in 1946 they were all refitted in Holland after being surplussed then they were sold to the Swiss in 1949, they were last used by the Swiss in Jan 1969 when they were scrapped and replaced by the Pilatus P-3. Out of the original Swiss compliment of 40 aircraft, only 3 remain in preservation..all in Germany..the rest being scrapped (some of the then already withdrawn and scrapped planes are what appear in this movie mocked up as FW 190s). -- Last edit: 2012-12-07 22:51:39 |

So... None of you care that there`s a helicopter in this story? MacLean didn`t really care, it seemed. |

The Germans did use Helicopters since the 1930s so it's not to be considered an anachronism. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:World_War_II_helicopters_of_Germany |

I was wondering about the helicopter. I thought no one had a working model until Sikorski developed his, sometime after WW2 |

I question the ID of the bus -- As far as I can see it is a Mack. A model similar to the 43SB, which were primarily sold as school buses in America. A similar model for public transportation was marketed internationally. These buses were sold in the late '30's to early 40's. If nothing else, notice the Mack bulldog hood ornament. |

Why is no one outraged by the plowing of a row of vintage motorcycles? I would be interested in a list of the models sacrificed. Could their current value exceed the movie’s budget? Probably with the addition of all vehicles lost. |
