(Page now revised)![]() ![]() ![]() A Children's Film Foundation film, and the final screen production from the star pairing of Pressburger and Powell. Possibly the most famous of all the CFF films made in over 30 years of productions, or perhaps the most memorable due to an incredibly bonkers plot. A boy called John goes on a school trip to the Tower of London and takes his pet mice with him ( ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() When he gets home he discovers one of his mice is missing and decides it must have escaped during the Tower of London trip, and also that a yellow space-travelling alien called Nick with magic powers ![]() has decided to live in their television. John goes back to the ToL to break in and find his missing mouse, but gets caught and is about to be executed by beheading until Nick magically rescues him. And everyone lives happily ever after, including the rescued mice. All fairly straightforward really. -- Last edit: 2020-06-24 03:07:20 |

Where did one have to go to see these CFF masterpieces? I don't remember any being shown at either of our local fleapits. |

I'm not sure. They seem to have started as Saturday morning cinema clubs, particularly when few households had TVs, and then later kept their advantage by going colour long before colour TVs became common. Then in 1970s this advantage was lost so they started providing films to BBC and rebranded as CFTF until dribbling away in mid-80s. -- Last edit: 2020-06-25 23:39:01 |
