I was expecting something as good as Two Lane Blacktop or in that territory, but it really is about cockfighting.

 A lot of chickens die in this. It's the biggest sport in some countries so Roger Corman assumed he would make a lot of money producing a movie about cockfighting. That didn't turn out to be true.

 In imdb's storyline summary there is a casual hotel room cockfight(!)(?) in this movie.
