Only 2 foreign countries bought RTG, US and Iran...This an Amtrak version, only from 1974 to 1981. French RTG stopped in december 2004. 5 of them were sold to Iran and sent there last year http://www.turbotrains-rtg.net/index.php?action=RTG |

The turbotrain is a Turboliner RTG. The RTG Turboliner was an American version of the French ANF T2000 RTG Turbotrain built for Amtrak's Midwestern Corridor Services. The first two sets of the RTGs went into service on Amtrak's Chicago to St Louis Service in 1973 and by 1975, another four sets later went into service on Amtrak's Chicago to Detroit Service and the Chicago to Milwaukee Service. The RTGs were later joined by Amtrak's new turboliner; the RTL Turboliner. The RTL Turboliner were the updated version of the RTG and were built for Amtrak's Empire Corridor Services. The first two sets first went into service on Amtrak's New York to Albany Service and as well as the New York to Buffalo Service in 1976 and by 1977, another five sets later went into service on the New York to Montreal Adirondack Service followed by the Chicago to Boston Lake Shore Limited Service and the New York to Detroit Niagara Falls Service in 1978. Due to the high cost of running and maintenance, the RTGs were withdrawn from the Midwest Corridor Services in 1981 and were later transferred over for operations in New York in 1985 until they were withdrawn from service in 1994 following a fire on one of the RTG set, while the RTL remained in service and were later rebuilt into the RTL II until they were withdrawn from service in 2003. -- Last edit: 2016-06-17 16:51:36 |
