This film was partly inspired by a bomb threat that occurred on the Cunard Liner; the Queen Elizabeth 2 while on a regular voyage from New York to Southampton on the evening of the 17th May 1972. The caller had made the phone call to the Vice President of the Cunard Line New York Branch Office; Charles Dickson and stated that six bombs placed onboard and wanted US$350,000 to disarm them. The search of the QE2 by the ship's crew and a combined bomb disposal team from the Special Air Service and Special Boat Service found that the bomb threat was a hoax. The caller of the bomb threat was later identified as Joseph Landisi; a shoe salesman from Beacon, New York who later mailed another bomb threat to the American Airline Manhattan Branch Office and stated bombs were placed at several American Airlines terminals and wanted US$300,000 to disarm them. Landisi was later arrested by the FBI while picking up the ransom for the American Airlines bomb threat at a construction yard in Beacon, New York on the morning of the 21st June 1972. -- Last edit: 2020-01-19 12:43:22 |
