I do like the Dodge charger in this movie. The charger in this movie has a spoiler and you dont seemany chargers with spoilers, apart from the charger daytona but then thats a different model. |

Where's the Lehmann-Peterson limo? Seems like I have to watch that movie again on my computer, right? A bunch of more cars missing here. Edit: I'm currently working on a facelift for this movie page, meaning: Better/ bigger pics, additional vehicles, better colors (!) etc. -- Last edit: 2009-04-13 18:57:55 |

Maybe better not to change the main picture (because at least I choose my main pictures very carefully...) Main pictures can be changed if timestamp is the same IMHO. |

It also depends if pictures were well chosen. If there is no real reason to change it, indeed it is better to take the same scene/shot, or update/remove the time-tag if needed. |

A reason for changing main pictures would be improvement (= a full view instead of partial view of the same vehicle). For example: Old picture ![]() ![]() Honestly, in such obvious cases I really don't care about a different time stamp. We all want a high quality site, and so do I! Maybe the contributor had a reason to list the first picture? I think it's not so bad. Some of us like explosions. ![]() |

While I do think that it's nice to have better pictures, shouldn't the black borders have been cropped first? |

They were also seen on the old pictures (-> Chevy Two-Ten, Charger) and nobody complained about them before, so I kept them. They're part of the movie. ![]() -- Last edit: 2009-04-18 23:02:37 |

did this movie an answer to the Gumball rally? |
◊ 2009-04-19 03:43 |
This movie, the Gumball Rally, and Cannonball Run were all based on the same series of real-life, outlaw cross country road races, known as the "Cannonball Baker Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash" (the name was deliberately long, as to be waggish). These races were devised by former Car and Driver magazine editor Brock Yates, and four such races were held in 1971, 1972, 1975, and 1979. The first two races were considered such a pop-culture phenomenon (making newspapers and the like) that screenwriters were quick to cash in on it. First came the Gumball Rally, then Cannonball, then finally Cannonball Run (which was written by Brock Yates himself, although his original script was far better than the cinematic abortion that ended up on screen). Supposedly Yates, who had always been planning to write a screenplay from the time of the first race, was very bitter that two other screenwriters beat him to it, and claims he still to this day refuses to watch the Gumball Rally, even though he understands it's basically a solid film. |

81 new cars added... there are some regroups to do after a correct identification; maybe some cars are not worth to list but I have already deleted at least 15 cars in the far background! @ typhlosion: avoid to post very far, common or small cars ![]() -- Last edit: 2010-04-17 15:57:10 |

Quite notably the main cars in this movie have a very 70's "street machine" style appearance. Both the Charger and the Mustang as seen in the final chase are fitted with period accessories- such as the KC foglights on the Charger, and sidepipes on the Mustang, as well as the Ansen Sprint "slotted-mag" wheels, that were quite popular back in the day. The amount of small sponsors they plastered all over the cars also reminds me of the late sixties Hot Wheels and how they came with sticker sheets with similar decals to the two main cars, that you could apply in a similar fashion. I also love how the Charger has such an interesting rear wing that probably looked strange back in 1976, when the movie came out. |

probably cos they are friends of director Paul Bartel (guy in middle) Stallone played in Bartel's earlier flick Death Race 2000 -- Last edit: 2024-04-23 22:44:34 |
