What a god awful series, no wonder it was axed, only watched it as a friend has recently bought MDG 813P (white Datsun) which was owned by the director Anthony Parker.

Another series that completely passed me by (did it air in the Border TV region?), mind you, we were a strictly BBC household, the only time ITV was on was for a decent movie or during the entirety of Wimbledon fortnight.

I have no idea, my friend just said that he had bought that Datsun that has been in a barn for many many years and was told it was owned by a tv director/producer and was used as an 'extra' in this, Shelley, and a few other programmes.

 I've been living in the caravan watching the bike racing on Channel whatever it's called.

One mention of the late Peter Butterworth was enough to cause my old Dad to reach for the off switch. Can't recall if we had a remote by then, two buttons only, channel and volume, so you could mute the TV if the phone rang in the hall.

 @ingo: All PAL broadcasts were on UHF frequencies. The old 405-line black and white system used VHF.

:think: So maybe a reason, why in Germany the most TV-sets had the UHF/VHF-switch was the fact, that the two German states had different systems. West Germany had PAL (founded in West Germany) and the DDR had used SECAM.
For many years the DDR-regime forbade their citizens to watch West German TV-programmes (in the 50ies the FDJ ripped west-aligned TV-antennas off the roofs), so they always tried to spoil the reception of Western programmes.
But in the 80ies even the DDR-made TV-sets had both systems.


P.S. After thinking a bit, I have to precisise, that the different TV-systems referred on colour TV. I remember, that the first West German programme and DDR1 were VHF and the second West programme and DDR2 were UHF.
Up to the early 90ies I only had black/white TV-sets in my room.
