Being filmed in central Glasgow as I write, around George Square. Streets closed off with props to create US-style traffic lights, street signs etc. Loads of US-spec LHD cars of various sorts and US emergency vehicles - my guess from what little I could see from the wrong side of all the barriers was at least 40 civilian and police cars, trucks, fire engines, ambulances etc, many with US-lookalike plates, but no idea if formats/combinations are genuine. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-14523503 , http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/News/World+War+Z.htm , http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14562248 . Other parts of Glasgow may be used for urban dereliction/ruin scenes - there is a big demolition zone east of the city centre at the moment for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, but can't find details. |

They also filmed in Malta, standing in for Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories. http://bradpittfans.forumcommunity.net/?t=37094093&st=30 As you can see, there's an Iltis. Don't know whether it's a Volkswagen or a Bombardier. |

My couple of hours in the city centre today was totally surreal. Alongside the Americanisation of several blocks, all the pubs in the next streets are full of singing Swiss blokes heavily equipped with flags and costumes for a football match tonight (Celtic vs Sion), and a convoy of LHD Caterham and Lotus Sevens then went past very loudly - looked like at least one Luxembourg plate and possibly some French. -- Last edit: 2011-08-19 02:45:52 |

Still exists the world in 2012 or in sucessive years? |
◊ 2011-08-19 12:33 |
Do you see any coherence with the previous postings? Are caber-tossing Scotsmen or Swiss blokes responsible anyhow? Or Luxemburgish Caterham-drivers? |

Reported today that Glasgow set is representing Philadelphia - very cheesey - and that 1,200 cast and crew are involved on this location. |

Filming also due to take place this weekend at Grangemouth (between Glasgow and Edinburgh) along the A905/Wholeflats Road which runs along the boundary of the large oil refinery - Link to "www.falkirkherald.co.uk" . Glasgow clip of bin lorry crash at http://bcove.me/1jwv113t - a newspaper reporter filmed it from the living room window of his flat in Cochrane Street, to the south of the City Chambers and George Square. -- Last edit: 2011-08-20 20:47:33 |

There are a lot of "goofs" visible in the pictures and videos. One big goof can be seen here: There are a bunch of photos of this SWAT van sitting in front of the "United States Court House." Unfortunately, the flags are placed incorrectly. When facing the building, the US flag should be on the left. The state flag should be on the right. Unfortunately, they used a City of Philadelphia flag: instead of a State of Pennsylvania flag: It's my understanding that the custom is the same in Britain. When facing the building, wouldn't the Union Jack be on the left and the Scottish Saltire be on the right? The license plates are all over the place. The fonts used are clearly wrong. In addition, it looks like a bunch of the plates are anachronistic. The worst one appears to be this plate on a PT Cruiser: While many cars have anachronistic yellow Pennsylvania license plates which haven't been issued since 1983: The bottom of the plate on the PT Cruiser reads, "Vacationland," which indicates that it's a yellow Maine plate that hasn't been issued since 1973: -- Last edit: 2012-02-11 23:00:53 |

I found some photos from the filming in Grangemouth: Link to "www.facebook.com" The brown and cream American campervan is the only on-screen vehicle; all the rest are used by the film crew. But there's an American speed limit sign and a church billboard proclaiming that "He is risen from the dead". |

Some zombie-ravaged cars in Glasgow: Link to "www.heyuguys.co.uk" Jaguar S-Types must be pretty cheap now, because they've thoroughly wrecked one and and bashed another up a little bit. P.S. Some more photos from last week: Link to "www.flickr.com" This is a double for a Volvo driven by Brad Pitt's character. It has a driving position on the roof, so that an actor can be filmed pretending to drive. I imagine that it's for stunt driving shots that can't be done with a car on a trailer. This is a bit old, but here's a photo of an Oshkosh SandCat that was used during filming in Malta: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bomba08/5884016971/ If anyone has read the book, the part of the film set in Philadelphia is supposed to replace the Battle of Yonkers. Other sequences in the script (such as the part in Israel) supposedly match the book though. Not necessarily an oops, you could explain it away as refugees fleeing from New York to Philadelphia in a MTA bus. -- Last edit: 2011-08-26 06:58:31 |

I've found yet another set of photos from Glasgow: Link to "www.flickr.com" There's a Pierce fire truck, a Ford E-Series ambulance and a not-American Neoplan dressed up as a Philadelphia bus. Going to Flickr and searching for "World War Z" will bring up a huge number of photos. P.S. Some trivia in Glasgow papers over weekend: - filming also took place in Falmouth (Cornwall), - Brad races through Glasgw centre in a campervan in one crash-filled chase, - Cochrane St (as bin-lorry crash above) is Philadelphia's JFK Boulevard, - Glasgow's City Chambers on George Square (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasgow_City_Chambers ) becomes the Liberty Grand Hotel, - an empty Kwik-Save supermarket on Paisley Road West (SW of City Centre) also being used for filming, - £800 worth of sheep and pig carcasses being used for bodies from crashes, - the irony that George Square is named after King George III, "the despot against whom Philadelphia launched the American Revolution". |

There's a new music video by Muse with lots of clips from the film and some new vehicles, including Glasgow as Philadelphia, an Israeli military convoy (filmed in Malta) and Malta as Jerusalem with classic Maltese buses and traffic driving on the left, the lazy bastards. Paramount have released an official behind the scenes video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=TgNiIHyK7Wg#! Lots of Glasgow as Philadelphia for dsl, including cars that you'd never see in the US, and Maltese cars at a replica Israeli checkpoint. |

Have to admit I'm quite impressed how they've merged "the dear green place" into Glasadelphia in that clip. I doubt if most folk would notice the switching. |

Film comes out today! Clip looks decent, hard to tell it was the U.K. Not only that, bread trucks aren't really used for tactical duties anymore (haven't been for many years now), and the livery looks... off (In real-life "Philadelphia Police" would be in large letters and "SWAT" would be in smaller font). They've been largely replaced by Lenco BearCats and other armored cars. I wonder how they did the Benjamin Franklin Bridge scenes? CGI? Does Glasgow even have large suspension bridges? I don't know why they decided to go all the way to the U.K. to film the Philly scenes. If they were worried about tax breaks, they could've just gone to Canada and done it. Canada looks a heckuva lot more like the USA than the U.K. does. Might as well go to Taiwan to film a Baghdad scene. Questionable shooting locations (U.K. as Philly, Malta as Israel). I did notice the plates, though. I thought they were just made up at first, but they appear to be vintage plates from back in the day, indeed. Probably a result of filming in the U.K.; they couldn't get their hands on more recent plates, I guess? -- Last edit: 2013-06-21 16:58:49 |

The license plates are replicas, they just picked the wrong designs to copy. P.S. The bridge and the taller buildings in the background were added with CGI. http://www.visualhollywood.com/movies_2013/world_war_z/about.php -- Last edit: 2013-06-27 18:05:59 |

My mistake. Comparing the photo to what we can see of the Crawford truck in /vehicle_627010-Ford-AeroMax-1988.html I see that there are two: one with a phone number on the side (the one that the refuse truck crashes into) and one without a phone number (the Ford in the photo). -- Last edit: 2020-08-21 12:12:55 |
