“While much is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.”

The story goes, according to Jean-Claude Carriere, that when a famous French psychoanalyst's schedule called for a lecture on female masochism, he would simply screen Luis Bunuel's Belle de jour and follow it up by saying, “I have nothing more to say.” I'd say that if that same person were to give a lecture on madness and utmost insanity, he could simply screen The Bunker and then say the same thing.

The movie seems to be doing the rounds in HD in Germany, but it looks like it was upscaled from the French dvd, itself none too good to begin with and looking more like a vhs tape, with German titles superimposed over the French ones. The opening sequence in particular looks dreadful, as if someone applied a fresco filter over the film. At least, it's actually not matted widescreen and it seems to have some scenes not on the US dvd.

@mike962, have you ever seen Fritz Diez acting?

^ I'm embarrassed to admit that I have yet to see Der Untergang (the only other movie on this topic I have seen is Der letzte Akt with Albin Škoda and the wonderful Oskar Werner, which is a horrifying movie in its own right), but I've seen some clips of Ganz in it and I don't doubt it. That said, while I couldn't quite picture Anthony Hopkins as Hitler, he was brilliant, too, although watching Hitler go ballistic in English was, well, an interesting experience. :)
