It's never too early for Christmas. |

I remember watching this movie when I was a kid and trying to distinguish the cars. I swear there's a Lincoln Zephyr driving by in a scene too, but I haven't seen this movie in about a year, so I am not sure. |

There are a few other background cars in the movie that I did not add mainly because it was either too dark or blurry. |
◊ 2006-11-20 06:24 |
Hah, It was ME who added the parkers Olds to this movies trivia on IMDb last year. |

When Ralphie fights Scut Farkas, there is what looks like a junked Ford Model A (missing its engine and front end). |
◊ 2009-07-07 20:04 |
I was just thinking about that car. wasn't it pink? |
◊ 2010-12-20 05:15 |
Yes, it was a two-door, pink (probably primer) with a black firewall. It still had its vinyl top installed. There was also the bodyshell of a two-door convertible with a rumble seat (which was missing). Neither car had hoods or fenders. I'm guessing they were rented from restorers or rodders since they were both in nice shape, not wrecks. In the background of that scene there is an open garage and you can see the front of what looks to be a Model A. Downtown and the residential street exteriors were filmed in Cleveland. The other scenes of the children on their way to/from school and the fight scene were filmed near Toronto. -- Last edit: 2024-11-06 04:45:31 |

Now how many times the characters in the movie had said this? "You'll shoot your eye out kid" -- Last edit: 2011-02-04 17:19:43 |

Counting the echos in Ralphie's head, quite a few! |

IMDB goofs said that there were 1970s-1980s cars in the background, is that true? |
◊ 2011-12-22 05:09 |
I never noticed any. -- Last edit: 2011-12-22 05:09:42 |

About the cars...I'm impressed, aside from the couple noted above, there doesn't seem to be any major anachronisms in regard to cars. I enjoy seeing the opening scenes of the downtown area by the department store. It looks like the producers got every '30s car in Cleveland for the shot. I'm impressed that owners took their cars out in the winter, braving snow and slush. A very minor nit pick: all the cars are spotless and in great condition, whereas in period there would have been less perfect cars on the road! |

But don't shoot your eye out.. |
◊ 2024-12-22 13:05 |
I actually went to work on it last year, but quit before the opening credits were over because HD version is matted widescreen crap, meaning nearly half of the images cannot be replaced, so I didn't think it was worth the bother. I see now, however, that my 4:3 SD copy looks nicer than the one used for current main pics (no black bar on the left, for one thing), although it does seem reframed and missing a pixel or two at the bottom, but I think we can live with that. |

Pics replaced with better-looking SD and with HD where possible. Added some vehicles, hopefully not duplicates. bonusmobiles of various shapes and sizes, some of which may be listed as I can't tell what's what: + > > > bonus toy tank for mike962: bonus toy trucks: -- Last edit: 2024-12-24 20:32:48 (walter) |

Fun fact! Jack Nicholson was a big fan of Jean Shepherd's work and when he found out this film was being made, he became very eager to land the role of Ralphie's dad. Jean Shepherd and Bob Clark became aware of this but opted to cast Darren McGavin instead of Nicholson, fearing that such a big name in a supporting role would distract from Ralphie's story. |
