This is one of my favourite films in my collection that is not already listed here. It stars David Bowie, Tom Conti, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Takeshi Kitano and Jack Thompson. It's about Major Celliers (Bowie) that is held captive in a Japanese prison camp on Java in 1942. He needs to battle his inner demons in order to overcome the enemies, that's how I read it. This film has the most beautiful musical score ever, and the acting is incredible. It is, in my opinion a very underrated film and a must-see. Shot in New Zealand and Cook Islands. -- Last edit: 2009-06-06 13:36:07 |

@ lateef: please reduce the pic with the name of the movie. My suggestion: use geting.se for thumbnails in comments. |

Filmed in New Zealand and the Cook Islands. http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0085933/locations Looks as if the usual rule about Imperial Japanese hardware (or the lack thereof) applies: |

Well, the Jeep could have been captured and used by the Japanese. As far as I'm concerned, quite a few Jeeps were stationed in Java (that's where it takes place) prior to the Japanese occupation. The Jeep does even have an imperial star taped over the grille, which all Japanese military vehicles had at the time. |
