Aren't all these cars 2 stars at best? |
◊ 2010-10-06 03:22 |
If I remember correctly, yes. |

My guess is they rented them all at the same car rental. |

Anyone else notice that both the Aries and Bronco have vanity plates? |

Since the BMW was John Hughes' own car I wonder if at least some of the others could just have been other crew members' cars, however I haven't been able to find any comment anywhere on this. The cars show right at the beginning where each of the kids comes from but at least with the Johnson's and Clark's cars I think the exact makes and models didn't matter that much as long as their status was the same. Claire's dad's BMW is definitely the most important one and even mentioned in the film (Bender to Claire: "just stick to the things you know, shopping, nail polish, your father's BMW and your poor--rich--drunk mother in the Carribean!"). Maybe Hughes was a BMW fan and planned on using his car already at the time of writing the script? I wondered if her dad could also have been driving a French car as the Standish seem to have an affection for France, French first names and Claire says she wishes she was on a plane to France. However - apart from the fact that the BMW was on hand - it is hard to figure out a French car of the era that would fit. With Allison's parents' Cadillac I'm not completely sure. IIRC it is the only hint throughout the film showing that her family is wealthy but first I thought it might also have been probably a Lincoln. But maybe it had to be a Seville because its design is considered ugly by some and may serve as a symbol for bad taste here. The vanity plates serve their very special purpose too. The Johnsons with "EMC 2" are a family of scientists while the Clarkes with "OHIOST" are much into sports, however we see this one only fully at the end of the movie. Too bad we don't see the ones on the BMW and Cadillac, what do you think those could have read? |

Why is it set in 1984 instead of 1985? |

If you may be talking about the filming dates, Filming of movies can take a year or 2 (or 0 because they can be released for the same year.) for the movie to be released next year (or same year.) in but if you're talking about the movie's year set, to be precise, I do not know. ![]() -- Last edit: 2022-10-10 00:07:15 |
