How comfortable .gif ":)") In West Germany we had two nationwide programmes back then, plus a third channel with local programmes. I grew up not too far away from the "Iron Curtain", less than 100 km from the DDR-border, so we had the luxoury of the two DDR-TV-channels, so total 5 programmes.The first private channels, reachable by antenna, came up around 1985. Also the cable-TV started around that time. |

Among many unbearable communist propaganda there were a few good programmes. As some children-movies and series. O.k., some of them were orgin Czech or Russian ( http://www.zeichentrickserien.de/hasewolf.htm ), but not to see in West German programmes. Though some Czech series were co-productions with the West German-TV, as /movie.php?id=175381 , so not aired in the DDR-TV. One DDR-TV-relict is still on air: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandm%C3%A4nnchen , while the Western derivate (only from the local Northern TV) hadn't survived. A nice footnote about the DDR-"Sandmännchen" : even in the deepest communist times, it drove a Western car! Mainly Trabant Link to "www.abendblatt.de" but there were a few episodes -made in the 80ies!- where it had a Land Rover  Some episodes of /movies.php?titleMatch=1&title=polizeiruf&yearMatch=0&year=&movieType=-1 were not too bad, too. As all Germans, East as West, generally hate subtitles, all foreign movies, shows, series, etc. were always dubbed. Before 1990 the dubbing ran parallel, so there were different versions. This is the best example /movies.php?titleMatch=1&title=olsen&yearMatch=0&year=&movieType=-1 , of a better, funnier DDR-dubbing. So these "Olsen"-movies (only the Danish original, the Norwegian version is totally unknown!) were a big success in the DDR, but never popular and really unkown in West Germany. Sure, something was changed for politcal or general reason. So here /movie_61728-Le-grand-restaurant.html the Hitler-parody is missing in the DDR-version The Western movies, aired in the DDR-TV, were always older and not top-blockbusters, because of the lack of Western money in the DDR. They only could afford the lower priced productions. Oh, and there was a TV-series for motorists, the "Verkehrsmagazin". Every second Thursday at 19:00. I was a regular visitor Sometimes informative, sometimes unintentionally hilarious (for Western eyes). I still have a personal letter from them I wrote to them, after a story about a Czechoslovakian license-plate-collector, and have asked for his address. Of the seriously meant original! I'll never forget it. I sat there, holding my head in the hands and didn't know, if I should cry or lough. It became a hysterical loughing fit...And yes, I was also one of the very very few regular visitors of the most discredited cummunist propaganda-series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Der_schwarze_Kanal Not so bad for me as for the DDR-citizens, as I could switch off totally any communist infiltration, when I wanted that. A footnote about the "Verkehrsmagazin". On a specific Thursday, I've switched on the DDR-TV to watch the Verkehrsmagazin. But I became angry, because the programm was changed.
