![]() ![]() Set in 1940s/50s Liverpool - one film but two parts (Distant Voices and then Still Lives). Mixes up the chronology - the opening scenes (2 funeral cars) are later in the story. A very brown film in screen colour and mood - much praised, but too relentless and by the end the most interesting element for me was spotting extras who appeared in Brookside.
