Although the car is approximately the age that the plate might indicate, the plate is a re-registration series which commenced in June 1964. The choices open seem to be Silver Cloud 2 or Phantom V, the coachwork looks Park Ward, so the date could be early 60s. -- Last edit: 2020-09-12 21:19:08 |

Is the coachbuilder Freestone & Webb? http://www.myrolls.com/images/rroc/2003/03meet/z0767.jpg (from here) https://www.coachbuild.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=103&t=137 |

My guess is F&W or Hooper Empress, and not tall enough for Phantom, so SC. The small side grilles look chromed, which on normal saloon is supposed to indicate SC2. |

It could well be, but I had thought that the treatment of the headlight resembled the “Koren” design used by PW. The length of the rear window suggests it is a LWB saloon, if SC2. -- Last edit: 2020-09-12 21:30:37 |

I don’t see the Hooper Empress drooping wing line between the front and back wings. My suggestion is to see if Rob picks this one up, despite my new glasses having arrived this morning I am out of my depth and bordering too closely on joining the guessers. The glasses are six weeks late, and have optically correct, but incorrectly shaped lenses. -- Last edit: 2020-09-12 21:59:01 |

To me, the screen surround looks to be Freestone & Webb. I would expect Hooper & Co. coachwork to have rear hinged (suicide) rear doors. |

Could it be similar to index no. LJ1996, chassis no.SYB24, design no. 3194, a Cloud 1 that can be found online? |

Can't find a precise match in my RR picture books, but captioned side-on pic of all-black [SYB24] described as F&W 6-light SC1 (apparently a one-off design, #3224/SC). Has similar front, straight thru wing-line and flourish on rear door ..... but thin chrome finisher on sill continues round front arch, and is different from thicker sill strip seen here. Not sure about the inconsistent design numbers between ^ref and mine, but I think "mine" and film car are closely related; both have long rear door (so look SC LWB) and have rounded lower screen corners. No idea if this is coincidence or useful, but 392 HYK is not far off 354 HYK, as used onscreen during "View to a Kill" for CUB 1 the normal SC2 owned by Bond films producer Albert ‘Cubby’ Broccoli. Edit - now I've looked at the pics of LJ 1996 - particularly this one I've re-thought - I think SYB24 is a match as "my" trimstrip round the arch is probably the body swage highlighted in the flickr pic by the silver lower repaint. So film car, book pic, and LJ 1996 are all the same car. |

LJ 1996 dead on UK sites, probably because car seems to have migrated to US with California plate 5UYX714. Can anyone pursue further info?? |
