The thumbnail convinces me that both trucks are Ford F-350 Super Duties. |

Are the colors/graphics syle on the FDNY vehichles too new for a movie set in the 80's? |

Yes. NYC EMS merged with FDNY in 1996. The ambulance would look like this: The fire truck is in the current scheme/livery. I think the yellow/white/yellow stripes came later in the 1990s, and "FIRE" was in larger letters back then. This page has pictures from the World Trade Center bombing in 1993. It shows what FDNY apparatus looked like back then. http://stevespak.com/wtcbomb.html -- Last edit: 2012-02-11 03:42:11 |

I thought the two organisations merged before 96 - as that was the year they started using the livery of red/white/yellow - as they still do today. Or am I wrong? The first merged group livery was white with red and blue stripes - like in this link:- http://medicvehicles.fateback.com/medic202.jpg Plus the ambulance 'We Own the Night' is an example of it - well a mock up. Plus I remember a late 80's Ford F truck with the livery in U.S. Marshals (1998). I presume it was ex-ambulance, not a made up prop. As it did look the real thing. |

I'm pretty sure they merged in 1996. The link you included is a modern red/white/yellow FDNY ambulance. I found a picture of an ambulance with the old white/red/blue livery: You can see them and more here: http://stevespak.com/apparatus/emsvehicles.html The ambulance from "We Own the Night" is here: /vehicle_152690-Ford-F-350-1980.html On the page, antp post a picture with a better wiew. It appears to have the semi-circle NYC EMS emblem on the door instead of the shield shaped FDNY emblem. It doesn't have "FDNY" or "NYC EMS" printed on the ambulance. It simply has "EMS" and "Ambulance" printed on it. In addition, the stripes don't look quite the same as the old white/red/blue FDNY ambulances. Of course, New York also has many hospital-based EMS ambulance fleets, like NewYork-Presbyterian Emergency Medical Services. -- Last edit: 2012-02-11 03:46:10 |

My error on the link! Oops, sorry, that is the sort of livery I meant with the picture you have posted. Well thank you for correcting me anyway. |

I am not necessarily good with these trucks but the one on the left looks to be an 87-91 F-Series and the one on the right looks to be a 99-00 |

Hazmat unit is a 1987-1991 F-Super Duty, Ex-NYPD. The ambulance is a 1995-1997 Ford F-350 Regular Cab XL Horton used by the FDNY. -- Last edit: 2014-07-08 00:16:09 |

EDIT: These were 1996-1997 Ford F-350 Regular Cab XL models. No pre 1996 in EMS service F-350s got the current scheme (or vice versa.) |
