"Ultima Edicion"

With that one, presented no in the "AutoStadt" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Volkswagen_Bubbla_sista_bilen.jpg Volkswagen had a real big, total embarassing experience
They have ordered many journalists to the quay, when the ship with it was coming, for welcoming the last every made Käfer on German ground. But when the container was opened, they get sight -and sniffed, too- a total moulded, stinking and rusty half-wreck  It took an Atlantic-water bath the whole shipping time. But there are no pic of it -and the long faces of the VW-people. All journalists were condemned to delete their pics...

So this show-car had to be restored, before it could be shown. Volkswagen had to ask for parts at this private club: http://www.k-ue.de/index2.asp But they weren't 100% successful. The club-chairman was not convinced about that and has found some cobbled or unoriginal details.
I've been with him, when he checked the exhibition-car ;) It was after a meeting, all chairmen of classic-VW-clubs were invitated by the new founded "Volkswagen Klassik"-division. At it was the only one. And no usuable results at all. Volkswagen was, is and will be total incapable about their history and their classics :/

The guides in the ZeitHaus of the AutoStadt (cute girls ;) ) were a bit irritated, when they have reeled off their (made for clueless tourists) text - but the audience was more concentrated with checking all exhibition pieces (especially "their" models) about the originality and the condition :) And due all the -mostly bad- experiences, we all club-freaks had made with the Volkswagen-way of handling with classic cars, the resonance was not really positive.
But it was really hard for them - to have a troop of ca.50 knowing-all smart-asses as audience

A real bewilderment we have caused then, after some have asked for the car-keys (so the Ultima Edicion-man, the Audi 50/Polo-freak, a T1-Bulli-guy and *cough* me  ). We had no inhibitions to scramble in and under the cars, for checking even the tiniest details :D
And... ...for sure we had reasons for raising our eyebrowes. "The chrome-trim-clips aren't orignal!" ... "The mirror is from annother model-year!" ... "The plastic-trim is mounted wrong" etc.pp :D

P.S. There are rumours in the VW-scene, that the "Ultima Edicion" in the AutoHaus is not the real last one, which is shown on the pic above. They only have the second last one, because the real last one shall be picked up by a rich private collector somwhere in America.

Ah, so he is the guy, who was faster and smarter than the Volkswagen company (which is admittedly not really difficult).
