The pic is already not visible, but "Avenger" is surely wrong. As it's filmed in the Iran, it has to be a Paykan. |

For dsl. AFAIK two-door Avenger was assembled for a while in Iran (1978) under the name Hillman Avenger. Despite it was already a Chrysler badging era in UK. The question is, did they assembled in 1978 cars with older design or those face-lifted ones... Edit: @Ingo - Paykan was Hunter. -- Last edit: 2011-07-21 23:47:28 |

This picture has the first tail lights 1970-76 (UK dates) and /vehicle.php?id=248950 has the 1970-76 front. So I agree 1978 Hillman Avenger as the best identity, but am not totally confident. I assume this is a 2 door - if not, it suggests there was more going on than we can discover. PS it may be relevant that all UK production of 2 door Avengers stopped in Aug 78, so there would have been some body tooling going spare; if Chrysler threw in all the obsolete pre-1976 component tools and trim moulds, I can understand how Iran could make a car just like this. Update - the final 2 door UK model was a Sept 78 limited edition "1600 Special" - see /vehicle.php?id=414106 comments. -- Last edit: 2012-07-29 14:32:20 |

Also possible they in fact had some pre-1976 import of those... But ok let's stay with assembly version, like for now. |

New info from small print details in World Cars 75 and 76 editions that IR assembly started in 1976. As /vehicle.php?id=517194 - 4 doors were imported, with local assembly being 2 door only. -- Last edit: 2012-07-29 14:25:54 |
