Aston Martins, BMW's and damn near all European cars are only driven by old (60+) snobs.

Buy a Tempo and all your dreams become reality. Not with pos Aston Martins.

There must be something, err, strange and unusual about the Tempo, because the ladies weren't charmed by my Escort (a 7/8th scale Tempo) until I got them in it (and even then, it was just because of the pimptastic motorized seatbelts).

By the way, Explorer- I found a bunch of Tempo and Topaz magazine ads from 1984-86 that I'd think you may be interested in. Would you like me to make scans of them to post on the forum?

It was more of a joke than anything else but up in Northeast Pennsylvania we race anything with a motor and wheels, although I guess road race would qualify better than drag race. Either way, I'm mostly a GM man and beside a few select Fords (read my profile) I'd take a Chevy any day.

Believe it or not for an 80's midsize with a 125hp V6 the Celeb has some power. My friend has an 87 and it does some pretty good burn outs. I'm not saying it's a Corvette or anything but it even surprised me.

explorer4x4

2007-02-09 16:43

1992 Ford Tempo GLS or 1992-1994 Tempo LX/GL have 3.0L Vulcan V6 engines that are ten horses stronger at 135HP.

The number of hp does not do everything. Except that fact that the weight of the car and the gear box configuration do a lot, depending at how many rpm you have the maximal power a car with more hp can actually seem slower than the one that has less hp.

You are quite correct antp,
With a high gear ratio a cars top speed is generally limited by the RPM the motor can take but it can accelerate rapidly - good for drag racing.
With a low gear ratio the top speed is generally limited by wind/tire resistance but it accelerates more slowly - good for maximum top speed.
And of course the weight:hp ratio is important in both cases.
The number of gear ratios that a production car has is a tradeoff between intended use, performance and cost. The more ratios that are available means that the car can more easily acheive both good acceleration and good top speed.

Besides, the Tempo may have more horsepower, but the Celebrity has more torque, so in the end, it's probably a bit of a draw.

I'm not saying there was a cloud of smoke but all things considered it was alot more that one squeak. My 88hp Escort even got out more than that

Even though this car was totally unreliable, I would still buy one because I love the way it looks.
