1) Why does it appear to be made by Toyota, in Canada? 2) Why te 'Tri-Star' name? |

Maybe this is what the Norwegian importer is called? |

According to this article - quite a few of these entered the country through grey importers, of which one is called Tri-Star. |

Tri-Star still exists, building emergency vehicles and more. Back then just like Truckmaster they used to ship US cars over here as 'grey import'. The vehicles were then given a new VIN upon import, hence the rather invalid 'I' in VIN ('I' = Import?). US origin, (re)built in CA. |

FWIW the 'Y' would mean former plant at Wilmington, Delaware |

Checking their address (Tri-Star) did add a new possibility: 88 Forest St YARMOUTH, Nova Scotia (Not capitalised by me, pure cut-and-paste, btw) |

Looks like invalid VIN here ![]() |

Not invalid. VINs can be changed by a Converter which is what happened here. TruckMaster & Tri-Star were Canadian converters. The leaf springs and other features are changed to place the vehicle in a lower tax? Bracket. If the vehicle wasn’t altered I believe the VIN would stay the same. Lateef and Tore-40 would know for sure and have probably explained this before |
