cloud ◊ 2005-12-29 18:34	La 3° Silver Wraith de Monsieur Nubar Gulbenkian fut livrée en 1956 De 1950 a 1955 Rolls Royce réserva sa trés exclusive Phantom IV aux chefs d'Etat 18 exemplaires furent construits La princesse Elizabeth fut livree le 6 juin 1950, et commanda 3 autres Phantom L'émirat du Koweit en fit autant, Le général Franco en commanda à son tour trois exemplaires blindés, Le shah de perse 2ex, Le prince Aga Khan Le roi Fouad d'Egypte, Le prince Abdallah d'Irak + 1 Carrossée par Franay pour le prince Talal al Saoud Ryal d'Arabie Saoudite, La derniere restant la propriété de Rolls Royce. La Phamtom V ne sera produite qu'en 1959 avec un moteur V8 Nubar Gulbenkian ne pouvait prétendre acheter autre chose qu'une Silver Wraith malgré sa fortume considerable ( Il touché 5% de royalties sur les vente de pétrole iranien à la Grande Bretagne) Ne regarda jamais à la dépense, grand amateur de fêtes extravagantes de jolies femmes, l'homme aimait étonner, choquer, et créer l'événement par sa seule présence. Nubar Gulbenkian destinait cette Rolls à ses déplacements sur la côte d'Azur. munie d'un pavillon en plexi intégralement transparent, la voiture possédait une capote avec des stores à enrouleur pour protéger les occupants contre les risques d'insolation. Cette Rolls délibérément voyante fut livrée avec une liste impressionnante d'équipements et d'accessoires à commencer par la radio stéréo et la télévision (en 1956 ). le film les felins raconte l'histoire d'une femme cherchant à se faire remarquer elle et son chauffeur. Pouvait on trouver une plus belle vitrine?.

Here what is written there: Year : 1956 Make : Rolls-Royce Model : Silver Wraith Long Wheel Base LHD Coachbuilder : Hooper Chassis number LELW 74 Body Type : Perspex Top Saloon Colour : Dark blue and silver grey Trim : Two tone blue and grey leather History : We are pleased and proud to be offering Nubar Gulbenkian's important Silver Wraith. This car is unique and has a transparent perspex top with a fabric inner blind to keep the car cool inside. Air conditioning is also installed. We understand that he had the clear perspex roof fitted due to chlostrophobia he developed at this time in his colourful life. The interior woodwork and dashboard was also covered in leather, a signature point on all of his cars. It also has a rear speedometer fitted in the rear compartment. After Gulbenkian sold the car it appeared in the film "Les Felins", released in the UK as "The Love Cage", which starred Jane Fonda. The car then was sold in 1968 to a French nightclub owner in Nice, where it was re-painted in bright yellow and lived in the basement of his club, as a conversation piece. Around fifteen years ago our French agent stumbled upon the car whilst visiting the club, realised what it was and who it once belonged to and made the owner an offer, which was accepted. The wall was literally knocked down with a sledgehammer and the car was dragged out on chains. Having reviewed tapes of the film the car appeared in, the decision was made to restore the car to its former glory, a task that will be completed sometime in the Spring of 2007. silvawraith2 ◊ 2007-04-30 20:30	This car, as well as the Silver Wraith Hooper Sedanca deVille seen in "Withnail & I" were both built for Nubar Gulbenkian, and are both on offer at Frank Dale & Stepsons. I have seen them both, and they are outstanding.

dsl ◊ 2024-05-19 18:11	Modern magazine photo, possibly from 2008 Bonhams auction photos, show dark blue and silver grey scheme - basically blue (including wings) with silver on side panels and for a couple of pinstripes, French plate 2389RD06 (1967 combination). 792RJ06 in main was late 1968 combination, so impossible in 1964 film.
