the headlamps located at the sides of the radiator shows that this is a series 2/2a model produced from 1958 to 1972. From 1973, in the series III the headlamps were moved to the wings(as did those on the later Series IIA destined for the U.S.). The vertical side lamps and double bumpers seems to indicate that this is an ex military 109. http://www.winwaed.com/landy/history/military.shtml perhaps we can delete the 1973 and refer to this as simply a Land Rover Series II/IIA 109 |

I think that might be a false plate, as there is no record of it on DVLA. |

It is definitely a wrong plate. This is a land-Rover 109" Series II or IIa (1958-68). In 1968 the lights moved out to the wings (1969 for the UK). |

It has SIII overriders on the bumpers, so they are aftermarkets most probably. EDIT: Alex, it will have that 70s plate on as that will probably have been when it was de-mobbed and registered for road use. -- Last edit: 2007-10-09 22:10:39 |

I think this might be the same vehicle used in this episode /vehicle_99001-Land-Rover-109---Series-II-1958.html This time its wearing its civvy 'demob' plates. When this episode was made ex-military vehicles were issued with a registration current for the time they are first registered for civilian use, therefore whilst this is probably a 1964/65/66 vehicle it is carrying a 1974 registration number. BTW, the front double bumper is correct for an early-mid 60s military Land Rover. Later models (Series 3 etc) have a different, shorter upper bumper that bolds through the front of the lower bumper. |
