This is a (1954+?) Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. Not unlikely a production car used for racing. Not many modifications were necessary before racing and removing the hub caps must have been one safety precursion must. At least if one is to belive the amount of hub caps lost in the chase sceen in Bullit... I remember one race published by the Swedish motor magazine Teknikens värld (Eng: The world of technics) in the late 50's, when a 300 SL out run all of the competition with a margin that big it was rediculous. Apparently it was also filmed, but the film has since then been lost. |

Must be German Sportscar Championship GP Berlin, Avus, 1956, [GT+2.0]. Only in this year were GT cars 2.0+ litres on the grid. Winner was Wolfgang von Trips, Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. Edit: #42 is driven by Bengt Mårtensson, in 1956: Link to "rejsa.nu" -- Last edit: 2017-02-26 19:41:47 |
