Shouldn't the model origin be UK? -- Last edit: 2017-03-13 21:41:33 |

Locally built (Turkey) by Askam? |

Askam wasn't in the truck business until '64 and this one is older than that. Most likely built in the Kew Dodge plant and exported, same as these Fargos. -- Last edit: 2017-03-14 17:54:33 |

Chrysler Sanayi was founded in 1962 according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Askam_(trucks) and changed its name to Askam in 2002 according to https://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Askam |

Also from Wikipedia and AllPar agrees: "Production of trucks started in 1964..." |

Compare the truck in question with this Commer. |

Chrysler did not complete the Rootes buy-out until 1967, so that becomes the earliest likely date for any Commer/Karrier models with Dodge/De Soto/Askam etc branding. Anything earlier with UK origin would probably have been pure Dodge. |

Per the link in my first post (all-caps and underline theirs): The bottom truck in that image is virtually identical to this De Soto, this Fargo and that Commer. -- Last edit: 2017-03-14 22:15:42 |

Slowly getting there. Agreed UK origin for Turkey. Glass's lists this Dodge Normal Control from January 61 until Oct 63 in 3, 5, 6, and 7 tons - all Perkins diesel plus option of Leyland diesel on 6 and 7 tons. This seems to be breaking new territory for us - we have nothing UK origin (or UK build) for De Soto, nothing Dodge UK origin (or UK build) within 1961-63 dates, and no Askams for comparison. |
